Continuing with the international promotion of the best young Latin American visual artists, Viajes El Corte Inglés and ENLACE ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO Gallery present the solo exhibition D – ES – TRUCTURAS by the renown Chilean artist AMELIA ERRÁZURIZ next Wednesday, November 16 at 7.30 p.m. The exhibition has the support of the Embassy of Chile in Peru. AMELIA ERRÁZURIZ (Santiago, Chile, 1961). Studied architecture and earned a Diploma in Visual Arts from the Universidad Católica de Chile. Subsequently, she studied interior design at Rhodec International, England. In Chile, she took part in the painting and color workshops of the renowned artists Manuel Venegas Cifuentes, Sergio Stitchkin, Juan Ibarra, Santiago, Eugenio Dittbom, and Francisco Gonzalez. Her work has been exhibited at important spaces in Lima, Peru; Santiago, Chile; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Brussels, Belgium; New York and California, USA. Among the most notable awards her work has won her is the Premio del Salón de Otoño, given out by the Sociedad Nacional de Bellas Artes de Chile, in 1992 and 1994, respectively. On this occasion, Amelia Errázuriz presents a set of ten works of varying sizes, prepared especially for this show, using oil and mixed techniques on canvas. In these works, the artist constructs landscapes where textures and the nature of the media are manifested in her “Collections,” constructions where wood exudes its warmth and materiality, adapting to the canvases in a kind of collage that emphasizes the three-dimensionality of each construction. The warm pallet hints at the theme of nature, clearly pointing to the predatory presence of human beings through the accumulation of wooden slats, thus offering a subtle message of alarm. The exhibition’s curator, Chilean art critic Eduardo Muñoz, tells us: “The painter Amelia Errázuriz’s studio is located on the slopes of the Andes Mountains, in a beautiful condominium that houses the oil paintings produced by the artist with rigor and serenity. Errázuriz’s works do not hide her origins as an architect, bursting with wisdom in the expansion of their colors. It is not easy to absorb an oeuvre that brings together the experience of a territory in the cracks in the materials taken from nature, wherein the rigor of the land turns us into witnesses to the essence of our country, tributary of earthquakes. Flouting the proper rules of taste, she tosses found objects at El Dorado, inserting them in her works as a witness to time. In this exhibition, her second in Lima, she demonstrates her importance as an artist in an ever-expanding universe of creators. Amelia Errázuriz is a hard-working artist, seeking her own path through her work marked by language full of suggestions that make her a brilliant example of the evolution of art in Chile.” The exhibition may be viewed at Av. Angamos Oeste 624, Miraflores, through January 16, from Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. No entry fee.
