Tres artistas peruanos” (“Unveilings – Trends: Three Peruvian Artists”). He has participated as a guest artist in the Eighth Sharjah Biennale (2007), United Arab Emirates; at the ITCA Triennalein Prague, Czech Republic (2008); and in major fairs such as ArteBA 2007 and 2008, ArtBO 2007, and ArteAmericas 2006 and 2007. Among the distinctions his work has won him are: Phillips Third Prize for Young Artists (1999); first prize at the VII Salón de Dibujo at the ICPNA (2002); finalist in the Second Young Artists’ Contest of the Municipalidad de Miraflores (2003) and the Fourth Passport for an Artist Visual Arts Contest of the French Embassy in Peru (2003). In the words of the show’s curator, Daniel Contreras, Materia oscura (Dark Matter) “… is not just an homage to the detail-oriented lines of the pencil, the expressive power of graffiti, a half-primitive/half-romantic ritual. It is also an intense reflection on subreptitious environments and situations in which gazes move, the gazes of both those who observe without being seen, and of the most attentive observer, out in the open. (…) Like a hunter of images in search of his prey, in a radical turn in his oeuvre, Patrucco focuses on anonymous portraits, all made with pencil and dark graphite. A matter that impregnates itself in the gaze fascinated by the other (others), constructing through the excessive sum of elements (there are nearly two hundred fifty drawings in one of the rooms) a system of highly complex emotional planes and levels within the apparent simplicity and triviality of the situation. Human offerings like mirrors in which to view ourselves. (…) Patrucco does not attempt to be a chronicler of the real world, and even less a constructor of realities. Rather, he is a deconstructor, proposing to us a dissection of the process that led to the image he presents to us.” Patrucco notes, “To be honest, I’ve almost never been interested in reaching the point of hyperrealism. What I love and what drives me is the creation of my own reality, a threshold that comes before that, my own reality filtered through my eyes and depicted with my hands. (… ) I walk around Lima, I inspect Lima, I consume Lima all the time, in order to try and achieve my own reading of the city.” ENLACE ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO Gallery invites the public to a guided visit this Tuesday, November 27 at 6:30 p.m. with the visual artist Pablo Patrucco and the art historian and exhibition curator Daniel Contreras. Both of them will tell us about the conception and development involved in "Dark Matter,” the exhibition on display through Friday, November 30. To sign up, please contact info@enlaceart.com.
