Antonio Espinosa

BIOGRAPHY

(b. 1974, Manzanillo, Cuba) The artist Antonio Espinosa achieved a degree from the “Superior Institute of Art” (ISA), La Habana, in 1977. After his graduation, he has dedicated his life to his practice, working a rigorous schedule to achieve his extraordinary artworks. Antonio Espinosa is most known as a cartoonist and painter. The artist uses a mixture of photography and installation to create his meticulous seascapes. In his work, Espinosa explores and comments on the current socio-political and artistic dilemmas through the use of humour and irony. As part of this process, the artist first develops a series of drawings in order to review and perfect his ideas. Espinosa has exhibited in a series of individual and collective shows, from which the following stand-out: “Antonio Espinosa. Obra Reciente”, 2014, at La Suite Subastas Galería in Barcelona, Spain and “Conquista de los inútil” at the 12 Bienal de la Habana in 2015.
